- Micropigmentation
Micropigmentation, or cosmetic tattooing, is offered by a growing number of aesthetic plastic surgical practices today. The most common applications are cosmetic, for permanent eyeliner, eyebrows or lip color. Micropigmentation for permanent blush and eye shadow is also possible, though infrequently performed. Other uses by plastic and reconstructive surgeons include recreating the coloration of the areola around the nipple following breast reconstruction; restoring the color of dark or light skin where natural pigmentation has been lost through such factors as vitiligo, cancer, burns or other scarring; and eliminating some types of birthmarks or previous tattoos. After a second conciliation meeting 6/7 November 2002 European Parliament and Council reached an agreement on the main elements of the seventh amendment of the cosmetics directive. The delegation of the European Parliament was led by Vice President Giorgious Dimitrakopolous and the Council delegation by the President of the Environment Council, the Danish Minister for the Environment, Hans Christian Schmidt. - Colour and beauty in Ancient Egypt L'Oréal and the French Museums research laboratory reveal the make-up secrets of Pharaohs
For almost three years, teams from L'Oréal research and the French Museums Research Laboratory (Laboratoire de recherche des musées de France) have been working together in a unique partnership to extend our knowledge of how the ancient Egyptians used cosmetics, by revealing the components of their eye make-up products. Their combined expertise, blending scientific research, historical knowledge and archeological heritage, has unveiled a real cosmetics "pre-industry" based on extremely sophisticated techniques. The Egyptians were indeed highly skilled "scientists". The study's findings were published in an article in the February 1999 issue of Nature, and a cultural dimension was added in the September 1999 issue of Techné, a publication of the French National Museums' Group (réunion des musées nationaux). The Audiology Department and Child Life/Creative Arts Therapy Services at The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center hosted a “Look Good, Feel Good” evening for hearing-impaired teens recently. The children enjoyed new looks and outlooks thanks to complimentary makeovers, including haircuts. The staff at Bellezza Salon & Spa of Glen Rock donated their time and expertise. Linda Cocheo-Mercadante and Jennifer McElroy of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics at Nordstrom of Garden State Plaza in Paramus, who provided make-up lessons, joined them. - FDA issuses nationwide alert on the recall of 'Pierre Fabre Physicians Formula Eye Makeup Remover Lotion' because of health risk
The FDA is warning consumers not to purchase or use Pierre Fabre Physicians Formula Eye Makeup Remover Lotion because it may be contaminated with Pseudomonas fluorescens and/or Pseudomonas putida, bacteria that can cause severe, sight-threatening infections of the cornea. The manufacturer, Physicians Formula Cosmetics of Azusa, California, a subsidiary of Pierre Fabre, Inc. is voluntarily recalling 16,300 bottles of the product.
