Model F20/8 from Tokhai Precision Industrial Ltd is an 8-in-1 facial and manicure set. Makers release dual application models that massage the skin, diminish wrinkles and clean pores.

Makers of battery-operated facial appliances in Hong Kong combine two or more applications to enhance the rejuvenating effects of their models. Electronic muscle simulators is the main application. It is used in combination with wrinkle removers, facial massagers and pore cleansers.

As a result of these developments, some companies are anticipating up to a 20 percent growth in demand, and consequently plan to increase production by more than 20 percent in 2004. Reicorp Co. Ltd, for instance, is planning to boost its output by 25 percent this year.

A wide array of products ranging from basic to multifunction As Seen On TV devices, are available. Most models run on non-rechargeable batteries.

There are no industry-wide standards, but makers are amenable to providing their buyers with test results for products that they claim are compliant with FDA, AQL and CE standards. Samples are also provided as further proof of quality.

Facial appliances account for about 20 to 30 percent of production. Makers produce mostly midrange models priced at $2 to $5 FOB Hong Kong. These quotes are expected to remain throughout 2004, according to marketing manager Karen Hung of Max Concept Technology Ltd.
