Shelter clients love new look provided by SallyCares Team

“Oh, I can hardly believe that’s me!”

“Girl, you look great!”

“I just loved it. They made you feel so comfortable.”

Those were just a few of the comments from women at the Fort Worth Salvation Army Family Shelter who took part in a SallyCares event recently.

“The girls had a great time and it was a real benefit to them,” noted Rhonda Chandler, volunteer coordinator for the Tarrant County Salvation Army.

Working toward a new life by recovering from drugs, escaping abuse or facing other traumatic situations, the women received new hairstyles, new makeup and advice on how to face the workplace. The services came from a dedicated team of professional stylists led by Ernie McCraw, director of beauty education for Sally Beauty Supply.

“We have been doing SallyCares workshops for more than four years, and we always have a number of enthusiastic volunteer stylists who want to help,” McCraw said. “It’s not only Sally employees, but people who work for our vendors who want to help out.”

In Fort Worth, Joyce Head, Jennie Carrington and Fama Sedlacek from L’Oreal, Amy Fletcher from Wella, Stacey Jones and Beth Hickey from EOH, Katherine Erenzo, an independent makeup artist, and Shana Dewhirst and McCraw from Sally worked with the clients.

Established in 1996, SallyCares provides personal care assistance and guidance to women in need. By helping them feel better about their appearance, the program makes them feel more comfortable and prepared when entering or re-entering the job market. Recognizing that a woman’s self-esteem is enhanced by feelings of well being, control and personal success, SallyCares seminars are designed to help women regain some of their self-confidence by helping them feel and look their best. The program also distributes boxes of beauty supplies to family shelters all over America twice a year, and supports women through seminars, scholarships and financial contributions to breast cancer research.
